Chicago police charged a South Side man with murder Monday, more than two months after four men were executed in a garbage-strewn gangway in Englewood.

Jerome Golden, 21, of 6419 S. Peoria St., was one of four people involved in the slayings, said Wentworth Area Sgt. Daniel Benoit. Three others were still being sought

The men were shot in the head the night of Nov. 8 as they stood next to Sox Food and Liquors in the 6000 block of South Wentworth Avenue. The location was known for its drug trade, and the victims were new to the area and believed to be selling "karachis"-cigarettes laced with heroin and other drugs.

The slayings were part robbery, part turf dispute, according to detectives.

"They were sticking up the dope dealers," Benoit said.

Golden was also charged with 18 counts of armed robbery in connection with a holdup at a South Side gambling den only three days before the slayings. Police came upon that robbery during a gambling raid, trading gunfire with the holdup men and killing one of them. One man was arrested in that incident, while two others, including Golden, got away, police said.

Detectives arrested Golden about 6 p.m. Sunday in the 6600 block of South Halsted Street. He was charged with four counts of first-degree murder and was being held pending a bond hearing Tuesday in Violence Court.

The four murdered men were: Joe Stokes, 48, of the 4500 block of South Lake Park Avenue; Reginald Patterson, 31, of the 4600 block of South Lake Park; Edward Washington, 41, of the 700 block of West 60th Street; and Lemar McCoy, 21, of the 14200 block of South Prairie Avenue in Dolton.

They were found lying next to a burning trash barrel that people hanging out in the gangway used to keep warm.

"We think they may have been doing something in someone else's territory," Wentworth Area Lt. John Regan said at the time. "It appears somebody was trying to send a message.

"Four people shot in the head: That's quite a message."

The FBI arrested a fugitive in Indiana wanted in the killing of a college student in Chicago last year, authorities said.

Isaiah Walker, 18, was shot multiple times during an altercation in the parking lot of a McDonald's in the 700 block of East 47th Street on Sept. 27, authorities said.

Akee Walton, 28, was charged with one count of first-degree murder on Oct. 9 but fled the state. Chicago police learned Walton had an aunt in Indianapolis.

On March 12, an anonymous tipster told police Walton had been seen at the home of a relative there. He was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Indianapolis and is awaiting extradition, the FBI said.

Last year, Walker was visiting home from Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa, and had gone for a haircut, said family members. A friend had asked Walker to eat with him before he was shot, his aunt said.

Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); Jody P. Weis, Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department (CPD); and Thomas Dart, Cook County Sheriff, were joined today by Michael S. Welch, Special Agent-in-Charge of the FBI’s Indianapolis office, in announcing the arrest of a fugitive who was wanted for the September 2008 shooting death of a Chicago man.

AKEE R. WALTON, age 28, whose last known address was 8917 South Cottage Grove in Chicago, was arrested yesterday afternoon, without incident, by FBI Special Agents and Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and Marion County Sheriff’s office at 815 Rural Street in Indianapolis.

WALTON had been the subject of a nationwide manhunt, coordinated by the Chicago FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF), since March of this year after being charged in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago with Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution, which is a felony offense. WALTON was charged earlier by Cook County authorities with First Degree Murder for the shooting death of Isaiah Walker, following an altercation outside a fast food restaurant on Chicago’s southside.

Investigation by the CPD identified WALTON as a suspect in this murder and he was eventually charged in early October of 2008. However, attempts by the CPD to locate and arrest him were unsuccessful. When information was developed indicating that WALTON had fled the state, the case was referred to the FBI. Subsequent investigation by the VCTF developed information indicating that WALTON was possibly staying with a relative in Indianapolis, and which led to the arrest announced today.

WALTON is in local custody in Indianapolis, awaiting extradition to Chicago.

The Chicago FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force is comprised of FBI Special Agents, Detectives from the CPD and Investigators from the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

CHICAGO — Shaquille Rush was a bright young man who rarely left his house in Auburn Gresham according to his mother, Dorothy Rush.

But the 20-year-old was out the night of Feb. 2 when he was gunned down in the 5900 block of South Calumet Avenue, according the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Dorothy Rush said her son was at party that evening in Washington Park before he was shot.

Shaquille Rush loved spending time with his two brothers and his sister, his mother said. He also loved to rap, and would often write lyrics and mix beats on his computer. His uncle was one of his favorite people to make music with, she added

“He was a very outgoing person, very spirited,” his mother said. “He always had a smile on his face, [he was] never mad and he always made people laugh.”

It wasn’t the first time that violence struck Dorothy Rush’s family.

Her husband, Luther Rush, was also shot dead in 1998, and her other children talk about their slain brother constantly.

“We were a real close-knit family,” Dorothy Rush said.

Shaquille Rush attended Paul Robeson High School in Englewood but did not graduate, his mother said. He planned to get his GED and to attend Kennedy-King College someday, she said.

He left behind an infant son, who celebrated his first birthday in September.

A 14-year-old boy was killed and 13 other people were wounded by gunfire across the city Friday night into Saturday morning, including a gang-related shooting near the Lincoln Park Zoo, authorities said. Antonio Davis, of the 8000 block of South Eberhart Avenue, was found dead with several gunshot wounds in the 7000 block of South Union Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood about 8:40 p.m. Friday, according to the Chicago Fire Department and the medical examiner's office.

The boy was walking with at least one other person when a grey van pulled up and a passenger, a man wearing a dark-colored hoodie, exited with a gun, said police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.

A 19-year-old man died after one of three drive-by shootings on the South Side early this morning, authorities said.

About 2:35 a.m., shots rang out from inside a light-colored sedan driving in the 6400 block of South Normal Avenue, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

A 19-year-old man, later identified as Robert Allen, was struck in the abdomen while walking through a gangway and was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook.

Allen, of the same block where the shooting happened, was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Shortly after, about 2:45 a.m., a 41-year-old man was shot in the forearm by someone in a vehicle in the 2000 block of West 79th Street, Alfaro said. A relative drove the man to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Half a mile from that shooting, about 1:30 a.m. a 24-year-old man was shot while walking on the sidewalk in the 2300 block of West 78th Street. A light-colored minivan drove by and shots rang out, striking the man in the lower leg, police said.

The man was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

The shootings came hours after a school bus driver was shot, apparently with a bullet intended for someone else, while driving an empty bus in the Washington Park neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

A 24-year-old woman was found shot to death in a vehicle at a Woodlawn neighborhood gas station this evening, authorities said.

Amanda Fitch, of the 4700 block of South Ellis Avenue, was found shot in a vehicle about 5:56 p.m. in the 6600 block of South Stony Island Avenue, authorities said. Fitch was pronounced dead at 6:53 p.m. at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The shooter was believed to have fled in a vehicle also, Police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti said, citing preliminary information.

Police had no detailed information about a motive this evening, and no description of the shooter or shooters was available to News Affairs by about 8:45 p.m.

Photos from the scene showed a small gray sedan parked next to a set of gas pumps, with three bullet holes in its drivers' side window, with at least seven small orange construction cones and two yellow evidence flags on the ground.

Big A (Amanda Fitch) was killed at a gas station. We know THF did the hit. People say Bob O put a price on her head. But why? Was it strictly to get at Ario? Big A just seemed like a cool person who hung with the guys and cared more about smoking out and poppin X then trying to slide on opps.

Why did they actively assassinate her? And who actually pulled the trigger? Was she ever in the streets letting off shots? I do not see her as a KI/Lil T type.

If she wasn't a shooter and died strictly because of who her family is, that is fucked up. I am sure the night that they pulled off the most legendary hit in the Drill era on Bob O 051 was probably celebrating by turning up for her.

Very few people in the streets are innocent. Big A seems to be one of the few people who were. Getting hit at a gas station like that is just an awful way to go.

CHICAGO -- A Chicago rapper related to prominent rapper Lil Durk was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in Chatham.

McArthur Swindle, 21, was sitting in a sport-utility vehicle in the 700 block of East 87th Street in the South Side neighborhood around 3:20 p.m. when someone walked up and started shooting, killing Swindle, according to the police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. The vehicle hit the front of a store in a strip mall at 87th and Cottage Grove.

Swindle - called Nunu by his family - sometimes went by the name Nuski, or OTF Nunu as a rapper. OTF stands for "only the family" - Lil Durk's group of rap artists.

The police said the shooting might have been gang-related. An aunt said Swindle wasn't involved in gangs.

Swindle's death came as he was working on new music.

"This was going to be his big breakout project," said Merk Murphy, who runs a studio where Swindle was recording the new tracks.

Like many of his contemporaries, Swindle's drill rap focused on his life. His songs were energetic, focused on having a good time and his relationship to the people close to him, Murphy said.

"He was one of those kids who saw an opportunity to put himself in a better position with his music," Murphy said.

Swindle was working with his cousin Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, who was trying to get him noticed, Murphy said.

Swindle, who lived in Englewood, was also taking college classes in Joliet, according to his aunt, Sherri Swindle.

She said her nephew's father also was shot to death, in 1995.

"It needs to stop," the aunt, 43, said. "He was a good person. He was a kindhearted person. He had a lot of soul."

Swindle had a young daughter, family members said.

A 15-year-old boy lay dead of gunshot wounds in a Bronzeville neighborhood alley Sunday night, the ninth and youngest homicide victim in a Memorial Day weekend that has seen at least 41 people shot since Friday afternoon.

Of those, three have been killed and seven wounded just from Sunday afternoon into early Monday morning.

Police found him and a 14-year-old boy shot about 8:15 p.m. Sunday in the 800 block of East 45th Street, in a South Side alley east of Cottage Grove Avenue near its intersection with 45th Street. The block has seen a number of shootings and homicides over the years, most tied to gang conflicts that stretch from the north end of Bronzeville into the Englewood neighborhood.

The 14-year-old was shot in the foot and taken to Comer Children's Hospital, but the 15-year-old died at the scene. The two teens were outside when someone in a passing light-colored sedan opened fire, hitting the boys.

The 15-year-old was identified as Raheem Dameron, of the 5600 block of South Justine Street, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

News of the boy's death spread quickly as dozens of family members and friends swarmed the scene.

A woman identified by relatives as the boy's mother sobbed and told mourners she didn't want to sit as they tried to calm her down. Another woman — who many of the officers at the scene were on a first-name basis with — yelled at police officers before family led her away from the scene.

As the crowd moved away from the body toward Drexel Boulevard, the scene quieted. A woman sat on the sidewalk as close as officers would allow before family members lifted her off the ground, which was wet with rain.

The body removal service arrived a couple of hours after the shooting, and the agencies' vans, trying to leave the scene, found themselves stuck behind a police car blocking access to 45th Street.

051 Ario Locked up for the Murder of Raheem

A South Shore neighborhood man was charged and ordered held without bail Sunday in a May shooting that killed a boy and wounded another in the city's Bronzeville neighborhood.

Arieus Fitch, 20, of the 6900 block of South Paxton Avenue, was charged with first-degree murder in a May 24 shooting that killed 15-year-old Raheem Dameron, police said.

At around 8:15 p.m., Raheem was leaving a Golden Fish & Chicken restaurant and walking near 45th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue with four other 14- and 15-year-old boys and another witness, when four or five shots were fired from a silver sedan, Assistant State’s Attorney Jennifer Keating said at a Sunday hearing.

Raheem was shot in the back and ran into an alley, where he collapsed and died, and another 14-year-old boy was shot in the ankle, Keating said. The 14-year-old was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, police said.

Witnesses identified Fitch, a member of the Young Money Faction of the Mickey Cobra street gang, as the man who shot the two boys, according to Keating. Prosecutors said they believe the shooting was in retaliation for a drive-by shooting May 15 where Fitch and another member of the same gang were shot.

Witnesses said the man who was shot with Fitch on May 15 was a passenger in the vehicle when Fitch shot Raheem and the other boy, prosecutors said.

The block where Raheem was killed has seen a number of shootings and homicides over recent years, mostly tied to gang conflicts that stretch from the north end of Bronzeville into the Englewood neighborhood.

According to court records, Fitch was free on bail and facing an earlier gun charge at the time of Raheem's death.

Cook County Judge James Brown ordered Fitch, who appeared in court Sunday with his left arm in a sling under a gray T-shirt, held without bail. His next court date is scheduled for Monday.
