Ellendale, DE — Delaware State Police have arrested 14-year-old Angelo Rodriguez from Millsboro, Delaware, for murder following a homicide in Ellendale last month.
On June 9, 2024, around 4:30 PM, troopers responded to a shooting in the 12000 block of North Old State Road.
Upon arrival, they found 17-year-old Ahniya Coverdale had been shot and taken to the Ellendale Fire Company. She was later transported to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. A second victim, a 19-year-old man, arrived at a hospital later with a gunshot wound to his leg and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
After an investigation, the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit identified Angelo Rodriguez as the suspect. On July 22, 2024, a Sussex County Grand Jury indicted Rodriguez.
Detectives arrested Rodriguez on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. He was charged with several crimes, including three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, first-degree assault, eight counts of first-degree reckless endangering, and theft of a firearm. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Stevenson House Detention Center on a $300,000 cash bond. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Delaware State Police.
