In Gordon, Nebraska, a 16-year-old girl is facing charges of first-degree murder and the use of a deadly weapon after allegedly stabbing her newborn to death, as reported by Gordon Police.

Responding to a distress call on November 6, a Gordon Police officer arrived at the residence upon learning that a teenage girl had given birth, and the baby was unresponsive. The teen's father met the officer at the door, asserting that the child was stillborn and that it was too late.

Upon entering the bedroom, the officer discovered the teen girl near the door, with the girl's mother holding an infant wrapped in a towel. The mother, in a state of distress, repeatedly mentioned that her daughter had harmed the baby, pointing out visible marks. Examination by the officer revealed the newborn's throat had been cut through the windpipe, with multiple stab wounds on the left side of the chest. Immediate CPR was initiated until EMS arrived.

The parents informed the officer that they witnessed their daughter accessing a drawer usually containing a boning knife. Subsequent investigation confirmed the knife was missing. Later, the girl's father reported discovering the knife wrapped in a coat and concealed in a container in her closet. The blade and handle showed signs of blood, prompting the officer to send it for further lab analysis.

The 16-year-old suspect is currently held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday. A correction to the initial report clarifies that one of the witnesses at the scene is the teenage girl's father, not the newborn's father.
