CHICAGO — During a White Sox game at Guaranteed Rate Field on Friday night, two women were shot, as reported by the police.

One of the victims, a 42-year-old woman, was hit in the leg and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center. She is now in stable condition. Another woman, aged 26, received a minor gunshot injury to her abdomen but declined medical treatment.

The shooting incident took place around 7:25 p.m., but the Chicago Police Department only released details about it at 9:55 p.m.

Authorities indicated that there was no active threat related to the incident. The game's subsequent concert was called off, with fans being informed it was due to technical issues.

According to White Sox security, the shooting wasn't the result of any direct altercation.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting, including whether a gun was smuggled into the stadium or if shots were fired within its premises, remain uncertain. Footage shared by the White Sox shows where the women got injured. They can be seen to the left, near the end of the State Farm signage.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson discussed the incident with WGN-TV News on Saturday. He noted the ongoing investigation by the Chicago Police Department and emphasized the effort to ensure safety during Saturday's game versus the Oakland A’s.

When WGN-TV News inquired about a potential internal investigation, the Chicago Police Department neither confirmed nor denied it. A CPD spokesperson told WGN-TV News, “The investigation continues with Area 1 Detectives and in collaboration with the White Sox team.”

Mayor Johnson reassured that the police are taking all measures to ensure safety for the upcoming game.

Details regarding the investigation are limited and it continues to progress.
