Three children, aged between 9 and 13, tragically lost their lives in what authorities suspect to be a case of murder-suicide following an agreement by their mother to let her ex-partner take them for a meal.
The distressing incident unfolded in Lucky Shoals Park, located in Gwinnett County, approximately 20 miles northeast of Atlanta. A police officer conducting routine patrols made the grim discovery of the bodies of a man and the three children in a vehicle parked along a walking trail, shortly after 1 a.m. on Wednesday.
The victims were identified by Gwinnett County police as Arianny Rodriguez, 13, Chadal Rodriguez, 11, and Carlos Rodriguez, 9. The alleged perpetrator, Jose Plasencia, 56, was identified as the former partner of the children's mother.
According to authorities, the mother was absent from the scene as she was at the hospital tending to another one of her children who had sustained an unrelated injury. Plasencia, identified as the father of the injured child, had rendezvoused with the mother and her children at the medical facility.
In a statement released on Facebook, police detailed that the mother had consented to allow the suspect to take the three children out for a meal while she remained at the hospital, leading to the tragic turn of events.
