FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Six days ago in Broward County, three-year-old Rylo Yancy was shot and killed while playing on a slide at a playground. As of Saturday, the case remained unsolved.

Rylo was attending a first birthday party at the shaded playground and picnic area of Riverland Park & Pool in Fort Lauderdale when the tragedy occurred. Detectives believe that two Mercedes-Benz C300 vehicles were involved in a shootout on Sunday near Southwest Ninth Street and 26 Avenue, with Rylo being an unintended victim.

Surveillance footage enabled Fort Lauderdale detectives to seize a new red Mercedes-Benz C300 and a black 2017 Mercedes-Benz C300 suspected to be involved in the incident.

Eight-year-old Chasity Fort, Rylo’s cousin, was also at the party. During a news conference with Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, Chasity recounted the event: "He was going down the slide when a gunshot hit his eye, and then my mom held him in her arms," Chasity said on Wednesday.

Mayor Trantalis urged the public to provide any tips, and Broward County Crime Stoppers increased the reward for information leading to an arrest to $10,000.

Detective Juan Rodriguez requested anyone with information to call 954-828-6673 or Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
