GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A horrific discovery outside a renowned spa in Gwinnett County has led to the arrest of five individuals, following a report of a dead body found in a vehicle's trunk.
The exclusive update on the investigation was relayed by our affiliates at Channel 2 on Thursday.
Around 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday, a distress call initiated the chilling find of a body in the trunk of a silver Jaguar parked outside Jeju, a popular Korean spa and sauna. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, authorities were initially unable to determine the gender of the deceased.
On Thursday, it was disclosed by WSB that four individuals — Joonhyun Lee, Joonho Lee, Hyunji Lee, and Gawon Lee — have been detained, facing charges of felony murder, false imprisonment, tampering with evidence, and concealment of a death. An unidentified 14-year-old is also in custody on murder charges.
Eric Hyun, a 26-year-old individual, was hospitalized for issues unrelated to the case before the authorities located the body, which was discovered when Hyun requested a relative to retrieve an item from his car.
In a press briefing later on Thursday, law enforcement unveiled the heartbreaking details surrounding the woman, who was in her late 20s to early 30s. She had been deceived into coming from South Korea during the summer under the pretext of joining a "religious group."
Tragically, she was confined in a basement and subjected to brutal torture, with starvation identified as a contributing factor in her death; her weight was about 70 pounds at the time of recovery. It is suspected that the ordeal began around August 3 and culminated in her death towards the end of August.
The investigators are convinced that the apprehended individuals were actively involved in her death and in hiding her body at the spa’s parking space.
The victim remains unidentified, with her family, residing outside the US, yet to be informed of the tragic development.
