CHICAGO — Five people, including two teenagers, lost their lives in Chicago over the weekend due to gun violence. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. Saturday on the 4800 block of South Winchester Avenue in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.
Chicago police reported that a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy were standing near a residence when a vehicle drove by and someone inside started shooting. The 15-year-old was struck in the abdomen, while the 17-year-old was shot in the arm and armpit. Both were transported to the hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
Another fatal shooting took place early Sunday morning outside Lawrence’s Fish and Shrimp, located on the 2100 block of South Canal Street along the Chicago River in Armour Square. At around 3 a.m., a group of men standing outside the 24-hour restaurant got into an argument with another group. A 39-year-old man was shot and died at the scene, while a 27-year-old man, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, went to a nearby hospital in critical condition. A 34-year-old man was also hospitalized with leg wounds and is in fair condition, and a 21-year-old man was treated for a gunshot wound to the left calf and is in good condition.
Police have not announced any arrests related to these incidents. Overall, 45 people were shot over the weekend, with five fatalities resulting from the violence.
