A 911 caller allegedly incapacitated an individual who reportedly discharged a firearm, resulting in the fatality of the caller's companion in Dayton during the weekend.
As indicated by records from Montgomery County Regional Dispatch, the caller alerted authorities to the incident at approximately 3:23 a.m. on Saturday at the 2000 block of Leo Street.
The caller recounted to dispatch, "He emerged from
the bedroom, shot my acquaintance, and I subdued him. He remains inside. I have secured his firearm."
Emergency medical personnel from the Dayton Fire Department conveyed the victim of the shooting to Miami Valley Hospital, where his demise was confirmed.
The victim's identity has not been divulged.
The caller informed dispatch of being unaware of the cause behind the shooting, explaining that they were spending time together when the alleged perpetrator, subsequently identified as Michael David Krieger, emerged from his bedroom brandishing a firearm.
According to records from Dayton Municipal Court, Krieger is confronting two charges of murder and felonious assault each, along with one charge of possessing weapons while under disability.
Krieger underwent jaw surgery at the hospital and is under guard until his release.
An affidavit details that the trio were socializing in Krieger's living room, engaged in drinking, when Krieger momentarily exited the area.
Upon Krieger's return to the living room, he approached the deceased individual, placing a firearm against his chest and discharging a single round into his torso, according to the affidavit.
Law enforcement officers discovered the victim seated on a sofa with a gunshot wound to his chest.
A dispatch log notes that the 911 caller entered the scene and witnessed an individual being strangled, subsequently intervening by firing at the alleged assailant. Court records, however, do not confirm any incidents of strangulation and only mention the deceased as being shot.
We have initiated contact with Dayton police to procure additional details and will revise this account as more information surfaces.
