Alabama Man Charged with Murder After Fatal Shooting of Sister
HOOVER, AL — Jonathan Arthur Barclay, 40, has been charged with murder after a deadly shooting incident involving his sister, Rosalind Barclay, 55. The shooting took place on March 15, 2025, at 8:10 a.m. at a home on the 700 block of Jasmine Way in Hoover.
According to the Hoover Police Department (HPD), an off-duty state law enforcement officer, who was in the area, detained Jonathan immediately following the incident. Officers arrived on the scene to find Rosalind outside the home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to UAB Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Detectives determined that an argument had occurred earlier between the siblings. The altercation continued outside near Rosalind’s vehicle, where Jonathan allegedly retrieved a firearm and shot his sister several times. The specific cause of the argument remains unknown at this time.
Neighboring residents reported hearing six gunshots at the time of the shooting. Authorities have confirmed that this marks the first murder of 2025 in Hoover, a suburb of Birmingham.
Jonathan Barclay has been charged with murder and is currently held without bail in the Hoover City Jail. He is expected to be transferred to Jefferson County Jail once weather conditions improve, as the state is currently facing severe tornado and hurricane warnings.
