The investigation into the carjacking and murder of a Homestead woman in Central Florida has taken an unexpected turn after the discovery of bricks of cocaine hidden inside a lamp fixture.
This development came to light on April 16 when agents from Homeland Security Investigations intercepted a suspicious package being shipped from Puerto Rico, according to a federal criminal complaint.
A K9 unit detected the presence of drugs in the package, which contained 3.28 kilograms of cocaine sealed inside the lamp using caulk and nails. The package was delivered to an address in St. Cloud, Central Florida, close to Kissimmee, by a police officer as agents kept a watchful eye on the area.
Monicsabel Romero Soto was observed driving around the residence multiple times in a white Acura SUV, seemingly trying to verify that no law enforcement officers were in the vicinity, according to the complaint.
