CHICAGO — An 18-year-old man has been charged with carjacking one victim and robbing another in separate incidents that occurred within an hour of each other. Cameron White, 18, is accused of working with an accomplice who brandished a handgun during both crimes, though White is the only suspect charged so far.

The string of crimes began around 6 p.m. when White and his accomplice allegedly confronted a 44-year-old man in the 5400 block of South Spaulding. Police say the accomplice held the man at gunpoint while White took his keys and phone. The pair fled the scene in the victim’s 2011 Honda Pilot.

Less than an hour later, the duo struck again, targeting a 28-year-old man in the 5300 block of South Campbell. According to police, the accomplice once again threatened the victim with a gun while White stole his wallet, phone, and cigarettes.

Police quickly located the stolen Honda Pilot, but the suspects fled after crashing the vehicle. Officers apprehended White in the 5700 block of South Talman, but the second suspect managed to escape.

White is now facing charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking and armed robbery. During a court hearing, Judge Shauna Boliker ordered White to remain in custody. Police continue to search for the accomplice as the investigation remains ongoing.
