A series of shootings occurred in Chicago over the weekend, leaving a total of 40 individuals injured and four dead, according to authorities.
In the early hours of Sunday, a drive-by shooting in the West Garfield Park area resulted in five people being shot. Tragically, a 40-year-old woman was fatally wounded after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital. The remaining four victims were transported to different hospitals and are currently in stable condition. One of the survivors informed the police that an individual inside a vehicle fired shots at them around 2 a.m. in the 4000-block of West Washington Street. Presently, no suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident.
Another fatal shooting occurred on Sunday, just prior to 2:30 a.m., in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on North California Avenue. The victim, a man, was shot and killed. Local detectives are actively investigating the case, but no arrests have been made thus far.
During the early hours of Sunday morning, a man riding a bicycle was shot in the thigh and arm on the Near North Side. The 29-year-old victim was targeted around 12:15 a.m. in the 600-block of West Scott Street. He was promptly taken to a hospital and is currently in a satisfactory condition. No suspects are currently in custody regarding this incident.
Tragedy struck again on Saturday afternoon when a man lost his life in a shooting incident in the Gage Park neighborhood on South Talman Avenue. The victim, a 59-year-old man, was near an alley when two individuals approached him. One of them produced a firearm and opened fire, striking the man in the shoulder. Despite being rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities are actively investigating the case, but no individuals involved have been apprehended.
Just under an hour prior to this incident, a 15-year-old boy was shot in the Chicago Lawn area. The incident occurred around 4:35 p.m. in the 6400-block of South Troy Street while the teenager was in an alley. Gunshots were fired, hitting the boy in the thigh. He was subsequently transported to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he is reported to be in a stable condition. No arrests have been made in connection with this shooting.
Earlier that same day, a shooting took place during an attempted robbery in Morgan Park on the South Side. At approximately 1:50 a.m., near West 110th Street and Western Avenue, an individual attempted to rob a 22-year-old man at gunpoint. However, when the victim refused to surrender his belongings, he was shot in the chest. The suspect fled the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital and is currently in fair condition. Further details regarding the incident have not yet been disclosed by the police.
Approximately an hour later, in the Garfield Park neighborhood, a 17-year-old girl fell victim to a shooting. She reported that an individual inside a moving vehicle fired shots at her, striking her twice. The incident occurred in the first block of South Spaulding Avenue around 2:45 a.m. The teenager managed to transport herself to Mt. Sinai Hospital for medical treatment. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is being carried out by Area Four Detectives.
During the previous weekend, the city of Chicago witnessed a surge in gun violence, with a total of 27 individuals sustaining gunshot injuries, five of whom tragically lost their lives. The police continue to investigate these incidents.
