Chicago Experiences Another Weekend of Gun Violence: 46 Shot, 9 Dead


Chicago witnessed yet another weekend marred by violence as a total of 46 individuals were shot, resulting in nine fatalities, according to authorities.

Mayor Brandon Johnson was present at the Navy Pier on Monday morning to attend the graduation ceremony of Chicago Police Department recruits, amidst the aftermath of the violent incidents.

One of the victims, Terry'a Adams, was among seven individuals shot during a gathering in the Austin neighborhood. The event was organized to commemorate her boyfriend, who had recently passed away in a car accident.


Surveillance footage captured the horrifying moment when gunfire broke out near the intersection of Iowa and Cicero. In the chaos that followed, numerous people scrambled to find safety, including the alleged gunman, who swiftly fled the scene after opening fire.


Pinkie McBride, the mother of one of the victims, recounted how the children present at the gathering were simply dancing and singing when the sound of gunshots shattered the atmosphere. Panic ensued as everyone tried to escape the danger.

Notably, the shooting occurred in close proximity to the residence of the mayor.


In a separate incident, a man lost his life while another sustained injuries in a shooting downtown.

At approximately 1:20 a.m., authorities discovered a 34-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds in the 300-block of East Huron Street. Despite being transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. Later, a 27-year-old man arrived at the same hospital with a gunshot wound to his left leg. His condition remains unknown, and no details regarding the circumstances of the shooting or potential suspects are available at this time.


In the early hours of the morning, another man was fatally shot and a woman sustained injuries in the Little Italy neighborhood. The incident occurred around 4:20 a.m. on South Throop Street when unidentified assailants opened fire. The 30-year-old man was shot in the head and was pronounced dead after being taken to Stroger Hospital. The 31-year-old woman, who was shot in the left arm, drove herself to the University of Illinois Hospital, where she is currently in stable condition. Detectives are actively investigating the case.


Saturday's series of shootings began with the fatal shooting of a 40-year-old man in Chatham. Police responded to a report of a person shot and found the victim lying on a porch in the 8300-block of South Ingleside Avenue at around 11:30 p.m. Despite being rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, he could not be saved. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.


Approximately an hour earlier, a shooting in Humboldt Park claimed the life of a 19-year-old man and injured a 20-year-old man. Responding to reports of gunfire, officers discovered the 19-year-old victim on West Ohio Street with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital. The second victim, suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm and a graze wound to the face, was in good condition after being taken to the same hospital. Authorities have not reported any arrests thus far.


In Englewood, a 70-year-old man and a 24-year-old man were shot in broad daylight near noon. The older victim sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center, while the younger victim, who was struck in the hand, remains in good condition after being treated at the same hospital. No suspects have been apprehended.

Earlier that morning, a 31-year-old man was fatally shot in the South Shore neighborhood. The incident took place around 6:48 a.m. on West 69th Street, leaving the victim with gunshot
