In Saint Paul, Minnesota, Katelin Prokop carries vivid, slideshow-like memories of her mother, reflecting on their inseparable bond. Among these memories are the haunting details of the night her mother was tragically killed.

At the age of four, Katelin lived with her 23-year-old mother, Cheryl Prokop, also known as Cherie, in Saint Paul's west side. On the night of December 2, 1988, a horrifying crime occurred: an intruder entered their bedroom, abducted Cherie, and brutally beat and strangled her. Katelin, hiding until it was safe, later discovered her mother's body and sought help from neighbors.

The police investigation revealed a staged break-in, initially making it seem like the attacker was a stranger. However, evidence suggested the killer was someone familiar to Cherie. Despite strong suspicions, the police lacked sufficient evidence for an arrest. The case remained unsolved, partly due to the risks associated with asking a young Katelin to testify.

Now 39 years old, Katelin expresses a strong desire to testify and contribute to solving her mother's murder, emphasizing the need for justice for her family. Following her mother's death, Katelin's family dynamics shifted dramatically, with her grandparents taking on parental roles.

Katelin remains committed to seeking justice for her mother and providing closure for her family, underscoring the need for peace, especially for her aging grandparents. Authorities continue to seek information related to the case, offering a reward for leads that could result in an arrest and conviction, and encourage anyone with information to contact the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
