In South Delhi's Neb Sarai area, a 48-year-old woman has been taken into custody for allegedly using a frying pan to beat her mother-in-law to death. The police believe that the attack was motivated by the suspect's long-standing frustrations over caregiving responsibilities. According to the police, a man reported on April 28 that his friend's mother had collapsed in her apartment and was bleeding heavily, prompting a police team to rush to the location.
The family, who originated from Kolkata, had been residing in Neb Sarai since 2014. The son had rented a flat for his mother to live in, right across from his own flat, to guarantee her well-being. His mother had been living alone until March 2022 when her son brought her to Delhi and arranged for her to stay in a rented flat opposite his own.
The victim was found on the kitchen floor with multiple injuries to her face and skull. The woman's son, along with his wife and daughter, was living in the same building. The CCTV camera in the bedroom was not storing any footage, but the son claimed that he had live access to the camera on his phone, allowing him to monitor his mother's daily activities.
On the day of the incident, only the suspect's wife was present in their flat, while the victim's flat was locked from the outside. After reviewing the CCTV footage, the police found that the suspect's wife entered the victim's flat with an utensil in her hand at 10:30 a.m. on April 28 and repeatedly struck the elderly woman. The suspect's wife was seen cleaning the weapon with a cloth after committing the crime.
The son later informed the police about his wife's actions after noticing her entering and exiting his mother's flat. A case of murder has been registered under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
