ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported the arrest of an Athens man in connection to a cold case from 23 years ago.
In 2001, Tara Louise Baker, 23, was found dead after a fire at her apartment, which investigators later determined was set intentionally.
The GBI charged Edrick Lamont Faust, 48, with several crimes related to Baker's death, including murder, two counts of felony murder, aggravated assault, concealing a death, arson, possessing a knife during a felony, tampering with evidence, and aggravated sodomy.
In 2023, the GBI Cold Case Unit joined forces with ACCCPD to thoroughly review and analyze the investigation.
"Tara Louise Baker was a diligent student with a promising future," said GBI Director Chris Hosey. "Her life was tragically taken in an act of violence. Although this arrest won't bring her back, I hope it helps provide some closure to the Baker family as they continue to heal."
The GBI did not disclose whether Baker knew her alleged killer.
