In a tragic incident in Edna on Tuesday evening, a 16-year-old girl was tragically found deceased, with police treating the case as a capital murder. Responding to a call at around 7 p.m., Edna police discovered the teenager's body at the Cottonwood Apartments on North Wells Street, as confirmed by Police Chief Rick Boone on Wednesday.
The victim was later identified by Jacqueline Medina as her daughter, Lizbeth Medina. Lizbeth, a student at Edna High School, was also a member of the junior varsity cheerleading team.
In their investigation into this serious crime, the Edna Police Department has sought the assistance of the Texas Department of Public Safety's Texas Ranger Division. Under the Texas Penal Code, capital murder is defined as a murder that occurs during the commission of another felony. However, the details regarding why this incident is classified as capital murder were not disclosed in the police's news release.
