**ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill.** - A man has been charged with murder following the tragic death of a teenage girl who was hit by a stray bullet in her home nearly two weeks ago in suburban Round Lake Beach.
Nineteen-year-old Shorbonia Poole, Jr. faces charges of felony murder based on aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm in the death of 15-year-old Valeria Rodriguez. Rodriguez was inside her home in the 1500 block of Cherokee Drive at around 9 p.m. on July 24 when a bullet entered the house and struck her in the torso. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Two days after the shooting, authorities executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1400 block of Kildeer Drive in Round Lake Beach. Police recovered a pistol and other evidence from the home, leading to Poole's arrest. The Lake County Sheriff's Office reported that the firearm matched the shell casing found outside Rodriguez's home, and investigators confirmed that the gun belonged to Poole.
Initially, Poole was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. He has been held in the Lake County Jail since his arrest and is scheduled to appear in court for the new charges on Monday afternoon.
Lake County State's Attorney Eric Rinehart expressed condolences to Rodriguez's family, stating, "Our office continues to express our deep condolences and sympathies to the family of Valeria Rodriguez over their unimaginable loss. Our victim specialists have been working closely with the family since this crime occurred. The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, the Round Lake Beach Police Department, our Violent Crimes Unit, and our cyber forensic team have been working around the clock and have done an incredible job to secure justice for this senseless shooting."
