Cook County Judge Reassigned After Circulating Offensive Image
CHICAGO — A Cook County judge elected in 2024 to a six-year term has been reassigned following controversy over a text message she mistakenly sent that included an image of a fake toy labeled “My First Ankle Monitor.” The image depicted a Black toddler wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet and was accompanied by the caption, “My husband’s idea of Christmas humor.”
Judge Caroline Glennon-Goodman, who had been presiding over a pretrial courtroom at 26th and California since April 2024, reportedly told a confidant that the message was meant for a close friend but was accidentally sent to another judge with the same first name. The image was originally taken from a TikTok video.
Chief Judge Timothy Evans reassigned Glennon-Goodman on Friday. The incident was first reported by Injustice Watch, which highlighted concerns over the message’s racial insensitivity.
Glennon-Goodman previously worked as a Cook County assistant public defender for over 25 years, specializing in murder cases for nearly two decades. In her current role, she was the second most lenient judge in the pretrial division, rejecting nearly half of all detention petitions compared to the division’s average approval rate of 66%, according to CWBChicago.
Court officials announced that a former Cook County state’s attorney, who was also elected as a judge in the 2024 cycle, will take over Glennon-Goodman’s position in the pretrial division.
The reassignment reflects ongoing scrutiny of judicial conduct and decision-making in Cook County, particularly amid debates over equity and accountability in the justice system.
