Mother Accused of Killing Daughter, Setting Fire to Hide Crime, Faces Multiple Charges
EAST POINT, Ga. — Nicole Ashley Jackson faces serious charges after police say she confessed to killing one of her twin daughters and attempting to cover up the crime by setting her East Point apartment complex on fire in 2022.
Firefighters responding to the blaze discovered Jackson’s 4-year-old daughter dead in an upstairs bedroom. Her twin sister survived but suffered severe burns across her body.
Authorities revealed that Jackson had been investigated three times by the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) since 2019 for allegations of abuse and neglect. Months before the fire, Jackson’s mother had reportedly urged caseworkers to intervene, citing concerns that the twins were being left alone for days without food. Jackson allegedly referred to one of her daughters as “the devil.”
Serious Charges and Impact on First Responders
Jackson now faces charges including murder, felony murder, criminal intent to commit murder, and two counts of cruelty to children in the first degree, according to Fulton County Deputy District Attorney Lauren McAuley.
“We have a saying that, whenever we go in, we are trying to save a life. This situation greatly affected personnel,” McAuley said, reflecting on the tragic discovery made by emergency responders.
Trial Details
Prosecutors expect the trial to last between five and eight days, with about 25 witnesses anticipated to testify. A court date has not yet been scheduled, but the case has drawn widespread attention due to the nature of the allegations and the history of DFCS involvement.
Jackson remains in custody as the legal process unfolds.
