CHICAGO — A 24-year-old Chicago resident, Tony Davis, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after admitting to a series of six robberies and a carjacking in one night.
The incidents began late on July 3, 2023, when Davis carjacked a man in Chinatown. At around 11:37 p.m., a 29-year-old man parked his Toyota RAV4 in the 300 block of West Cermak. As he exited his vehicle, Davis approached from behind, grabbed his wrist, and claimed to have a gun, though none was seen. When the victim hesitated to hand over his keys, Davis punched him in the jaw. An accomplice searched the victim's pockets while Davis took his wallet and car keys, then drove away in the stolen car.
Approximately 30 minutes later, Davis and his accomplice used the hijacked SUV to rob several women in Lincoln Park. Although they implied having a gun during each robbery, no weapon was displayed. The first robbery occurred in the 2000 block of North Howe, where Davis confronted two women, aged 26 and 27, and demanded their belongings while pretending to have a gun. He took various items from one woman and dismissed the other's phone as "not worth much."
Shortly after, a 23-year-old woman in the 800 block of West Belden was robbed. Davis stayed in the SUV while his accomplice threatened to shoot the woman and took her belongings. Davis and his partner then targeted three women in the 2200 block of North Geneva Terrace. One woman managed to call 911, but the other three were not as lucky. Davis assaulted one woman, breaking her tibia, and took her belongings while threatening her with a handgun.
The robbers next approached two 19-year-olds in the 2200 block of North Burling and took their belongings. Finally, a woman walking home from the Fullerton CTA station in the 800 block of West Fullerton was approached by Davis, who demanded her phone, wallet, keys, and passport.
Police spotted the stolen SUV speeding near Madison and Kostner in West Garfield Park about two hours later. The vehicle crashed into a streetlight as officers pursued it. Davis was arrested while attempting to flee from the driver’s seat.
Davis pleaded guilty to seven felonies, including vehicular hijacking, three counts of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated robbery, and robbery. Judge Ursula Walowski sentenced him to 13 years for each count, to be served concurrently. Due to state law, his sentence will be halved for good behavior, making his expected parole date January 10, 2031.
