Chicago Man Jailed After Confronting Prosecutor in Courthouse Elevator

CHICAGO — Devin White, 36, has been jailed after allegedly confronting a prosecutor with a belt in a courthouse elevator, making threatening remarks and following her outside until she was forced to seek safety.

White, who was at the 555 West Harrison courthouse for a routine hearing in his domestic violence case on February 19, reportedly approached the prosecutor while holding the belt and said, “You’re the bh prosecutor. You want to go?”* He then followed her off the elevator, prompting the prosecutor to flee into a safe room and call for help. Even after the woman sought refuge, White continued to shout at her.

In response to the incident, White was charged with felony counts of threatening a public official and intimidation. Judge Luciano Panici, Jr. agreed with the state’s request to keep White in jail, citing his violent criminal history and the fact that he had threatened the prosecutor overseeing his own criminal prosecution.

White’s previous encounters with the justice system include a robbery and kidnapping case in Lakeview in July 2020.
