Milwaukee Woman Charged in Murder-for-Hire Plot That Killed Father of Three

MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee family is seeking justice after police revealed that their loved one, 29-year-old Bernell Hall, was killed in a murder-for-hire plot in November.

Prosecutors have charged 25-year-old Ashanti Davis, Hall’s on-and-off girlfriend, with solicitation of first-degree intentional homicide. Investigators are still searching for the individuals who carried out the shooting.

Family’s Heartbreak

Nicole Hall, Bernell’s mother, described Davis as “obsessed” with her son, believing her fixation led to his death. “I told him months ago to stop communicating with her. I knew she wasn’t right, and she’d get him hurt,” Nicole said.

The tragic event occurred early on November 1. Police say Hall was gunned down near 87th and Carmen around 1 a.m. His sister, Diane, arrived at the scene and was devastated to find yellow police tape surrounding the area. “That’s when I knew he was gone,” she said.

The Alleged Plot

According to the criminal complaint, Davis claimed to police that she and Hall were in a parked car when two masked men attempted to rob them. She said she ran away after hearing a gunshot. However, prosecutors allege the robbery was staged and Davis orchestrated the killing.

Diane Hall described Davis’s reaction when questioned about the incident: “She had this evil look on her face. No remorse—nothing.”

Evidence Against Davis

Prosecutors tied Davis to the plot through recorded phone calls with an incarcerated man with whom she had a romantic relationship.

The calls, detailed in the complaint, included Davis speaking in riddles about her plans:

Oct. 28: She mentioned “baby daddy, boom, pop, boom.”

Oct. 29: She said she “got a cat to kill the rat” and needed to “speak in riddles because the call is monitored.”

Oct. 31: She stated, “It’s going to happen real soon” and referred to wanting someone “put on the floor.”

Nov. 1: Hours after the killing, Davis said, “They killed him,” and acknowledged people suspected her involvement.

When investigators questioned Davis, her responses were inconsistent, raising further suspicion. Nicole Hall believes Davis incriminated herself through her inability to stay silent. “I knew she’d get caught because she doesn’t know how to stop talking,” she said.

A Family’s Loss

Bernell Hall leaves behind three children and a girlfriend, Ahnamarie Brown, who is expecting another child. “It’s heartbreaking,” Brown said. “He was a great dad, and now he’s gone.”

Ongoing Investigation

Police continue to search for the unidentified shooters involved in the murder.

Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Milwaukee Police Department at 414-935-7360 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 414-224-TIPS or the P3 Tips app.
