A tragic incident occurred on Thursday night in Sandy Springs, resulting in the death of a 1-year-old girl identified as Nirvana Oliver. According to the Sandy Springs Police Department, the child's mother, Asia Calabrese-Lewis, has been charged with felony murder and cruelty to children in connection to the incident.
Police responded to a disturbance near the King and Queen towers off Concourse Parkway after receiving a 911 call around 6:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they found the mother in the parking deck of 2 Concourse Parkway, appearing to be in some type of episode. When the child's father arrived and asked where the baby was, the mother stated that the baby was deceased in a pool.
First responders searched the area and found the young girl in one of several ponds located in the Concourse Corporate Center, a large business park in the northeast corner of the Interstate 285 and Georgia 400 junction in Sandy Springs. The child was rushed to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite in Sandy Springs but unfortunately died at the hospital despite attempts to save her.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing. The mother is currently being held in the Fulton County Jail.
