Murder-for-Hire Plot Uncovered in San Bernardino Killing of Businesswoman
SAN BERNARDINO, CA — Investigators have exposed what they believe to be a murder-for-hire scheme that led to the tragic death of 44-year-old Yesenia “Yessica” Torres in broad daylight. Authorities suspect that her estranged husband, Sergio Reveles, orchestrated the killing, motivated by a contentious divorce battle involving millions of dollars in assets.
The fatal attack took place on January 10 as Torres was leaving a restaurant in San Bernardino. Surveillance footage captured the harrowing moment when a gunman ambushed her, firing multiple shots as she tried to escape. Initially, police considered the possibility of a robbery, but security footage from various locations, including Torres’ home and workplace, revealed a far more sinister plot.
Captured on Camera: A Targeted Execution
“There are surveillance cameras everywhere, and in this case, we found a lot of footage from her residence, employment, and the crime scene,” said Detective Dominic Martinez of the San Bernardino Police Department.
The video shows a man stepping out of a vehicle, approaching Torres, and opening fire. As she ran for her life, a bystander attempted to intervene, but the gunman continued his pursuit. Torres desperately tried to flee into a nearby building, but the attacker followed her before delivering the fatal shot.
Suspects Identified and Arrested
Authorities announced on Tuesday that they had arrested 31-year-old Gerardo Llamas of Bakersfield, identified as the shooter, and 54-year-old Arnoldo Ruelas of Los Angeles, who allegedly acted as the getaway driver.
Witnesses provided key information that helped detectives piece together the events of that day, ultimately leading to the arrests.

“The thing we always ask is, what’s the link between the victim and the two suspects? It was in the back of our minds,” said Detective Martinez.
Further investigation led authorities to a third suspect, 37-year-old Reynaldo Ruelas, the brother of one of the arrested men. Reynaldo worked for a San Bernardino pallet company owned by Torres and her estranged husband, Reveles, providing another crucial connection in the case.
Ongoing Investigation
The San Bernardino Police Department, in collaboration with the California Highway Patrol, FBI, and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, continues to unravel the details of the plot. Authorities believe Reveles may have played a key role in orchestrating the murder, though no charges against him have been announced yet.
The case has sent shockwaves through the community as authorities work to ensure justice for Torres and her grieving loved ones.
