Chicago Woman Charged with Murder After Fatal Shooting on CTA Platform
CHICAGO — Tiara Lee-Roberts, 28, has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of Kamari McMillen, 30, on the 69th Street Red Line platform this past weekend.
The incident, which occurred during a domestic altercation, escalated after the couple had spent time with McMillen’s family. According to prosecutors, the couple, who had been dating on and off for nearly a year, had a peaceful evening together before tensions flared.
Prosecutor Todd Kleist said that after a gathering at McMillen’s home, Lee-Roberts and McMillen argued on the CTA platform. Video surveillance captured the heated argument, with McMillen repeatedly lunging at Lee-Roberts, though there was no sign of a weapon during the confrontation.
At one point, Lee-Roberts walked away, but McMillen followed her, punching her in the back of the head. As Lee-Roberts walked away again, she pulled out a gun from her waistband. The couple continued arguing face-to-face, with Lee-Roberts pushing McMillen twice before firing a shot that struck him in the neck. McMillen fell to the platform, and Lee-Roberts fled the scene without attempting to help or call for assistance.
McMillen later died from his injuries that night. Lee-Roberts contacted her family after the shooting, and they helped her turn herself in at the police station. She also surrendered the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
Judge Deidre Boliker ordered Lee-Roberts detained as she faces two counts of murder in connection with McMillen’s death.
