Murder suspect in connection with deadly Parkway Drive shooting in custody following police chase

In Rayville, Louisiana, a former Jackson Police Department officer accused of killing a man at an apartment complex is now under arrest, as confirmed by Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace. JPD Chief Joseph Wade verified on Wednesday evening that a police pursuit involving the Mississippi Highway Patrol and Warren County law enforcement was underway for the suspect, 33-year-old Marcus Johnson.


On Tuesday, Jackson police issued an arrest warrant for Johnson.Sheriff Pace explained that on Wednesday afternoon, Jackson Police issued a bulletin to be on the lookout for a black Honda Accord with Johnson inside. Around 5:45 p.m., Warren County deputy Dustin Keys spotted the vehicle near the Vicksburg city limits.Sheriff Pace, Deputy Keys, a Vicksburg police officer, and an MHP Trooper soon joined forces to stop the vehicle.


They pursued the car into Louisiana, where law enforcement from the Delta Louisiana Marshall’s office, the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Louisiana State Police also joined the chase.After attempts to stop the suspect using tire deflation devices in Madison Parish failed, law enforcement entered Richland Parish, Louisiana, where they were joined by multiple Richland Parish deputies and additional Louisiana State Police officers.


Finally, Richland Parish Deputies successfully deflated the suspect’s tires in Rayville, Louisiana, leading to Johnson's arrest. He will remain in custody until extradition back to Jackson. Jackson police reported that Johnson is currently held at the Richland Parish Detention Center in Rayville.Johnson faces charges of murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling related to the incident that resulted in the death of 25-year-old Carlos Collins at the Tapestry Northridge Apartments on Parkway Drive.
