Southwest Airlines grounds ALL 800 flights across U.S. after system-wide computer glitch

Southwest Airlines planes have all been grounded due to a technical issue currently affecting the carrier's systems - already causing more than 1,500 delays.

The nationwide stop has been been confirmed by the carrier, and was issued this morning by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Southwest has blamed the stoppages on 'intermittent technology issues' affecting its entire system.

The nationwide stop has been been confirmed by the carrier, and was issued this morning by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Southwest has blamed the stoppages on 'intermittent technology issues' affecting its entire system.

In posts to social media, grounded travelers from Colorado to Florida forced to wait with little explanation aired their dissatisfaction with the airline, after a similar system just four months ago saw more than 16,000 flights cancelled.

Still developing, the incident has yet to be resolved, but could still see hundreds - and potentially thousands - more flights disrupted.

As travelers took to the internet to exhibit their dissatisfaction with the carrier, a rep responded to one complaint to confirm the outage.

'As a result of the intermittent technology issues that we experienced, we should hopefully be resuming our operation as soon as possible,' the representative, identified as Jeni, wrote.

'We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we're hoping to get everyone going ASAP.'

In another post shortly after - as customers continued to complain - the rep tried to quell traveler's frustrations while again apologizing.

'Technical errors are unexpected and inconvenient for all, and you have our sincere apologies,'

We appreciate your feedback and assure you the appropriate Team has been made aware. Thanks for hanging in there with us!

As of 11 am, more than an hour into the outages, no other statement was issued.
