Tennessee Man Sentenced to 159 Years for Three Murders, Adds to Life Sentence for Pregnant Girlfriend’s Death
MEMPHIS, TN — Joshua Dotson, a self-professed serial killer who referred to himself as the “Michael Myers of Tennessee,” has been sentenced to 159 years in prison for three more murders, on top of his existing 102-year sentence for the death of his pregnant girlfriend and her unborn child.
Dotson, 24, pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon after committing the new slayings.

In May 2020, he shot and killed Reginald Anderson and Renita Bennett near a Memphis park. Just months earlier, in November 2019, Dotson also fatally shot Divieon Parker, 18, in a store parking lot.
These convictions follow a previous sentence for the June 2020 killing of his then-girlfriend Jamesha Covson, 19, and her unborn child. Dotson was sentenced to two 51-year terms for those murders after he shot through Covson’s door and killed her while she was several months pregnant.
According to prosecutors, Dotson killed Covson because she knew about his previous killings. During his trial for the murders of Covson and her child, Dotson controversially represented himself in court, where he shockingly referred to himself as a “serial killer” and compared himself to Michael Myers, the fictional character from the “Halloween” films.

With these new sentences, Dotson will spend the rest of his life behind bars. The total prison time for his five murders, including the death of Covson’s unborn child, amounts to 261 years.
Lead prosecutor Regina Lucreziano remarked, “While no amount of time in prison will bring the victims back to their loved ones, we are content that he will never be a threat to our community again,” after the sentencing.
