Uber Driver Robbed After Returning Passenger’s Lost Phone; Suspect Arrested
CHICAGO — An Uber driver who returned a lost phone to a passenger was robbed and had his car stolen by the same passenger, prosecutors said.
The incident occurred on the evening of January 8, after the driver dropped off Kenneth Floyd in the 6500 block of North Glenwood. Shortly after, Floyd contacted the driver, claiming he had left his phone in the car. When the driver went to Floyd’s apartment to return the phone, Floyd allegedly pushed him, grabbed his car keys, and fled in the driver’s 2013 Toyota Prius, according to a police report.
Police located the stolen vehicle near Montrose and Sheridan shortly afterward and arrested Floyd, who was behind the wheel.
Initially, the driver described the suspect as female, but later confirmed Floyd’s identity as the correct individual. Prosecutors noted that Floyd, 30, identifies as male but has a history of arrests dating back to 2014, during which he often wore wigs and female attire.
Floyd has been charged with robbery and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Prosecutors requested that he remain in custody pending trial, but Judge Deidre Dyer denied the petition, ordering Floyd’s release on an ankle monitor.
The case remains under investigation.
