Sisters Charged in 2022 Rogers Park Shooting and Stabbing After Extradition from Texas
CHICAGO — Nearly three years after a woman was shot and stabbed in Rogers Park, the alleged assailant and her sister have been charged after an extradition from Texas.
On April 29, 2022, a 23-year-old woman was attacked in the 7100 block of North Glenwood. Chicago police initially charged Kamiah Alford for allegedly handing a gun to the shooter, with whom the victim had been arguing. However, prosecutors later revealed that the shooter was Malika Alford, Kamiah’s sister.
Malika Alford, 30, is accused of fleeing to Texas after the attack. She was recently apprehended in the Dallas area and brought back to Chicago to face charges.
Prosecutors allege that the victim had ended her friendship with Malika Alford and went to return a wig she had borrowed. Upon meeting in the middle of the street, Malika allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in both legs. Malika then asked Kamiah for a firearm, which she used to shoot the victim in the left leg before both sisters fled the scene.
Kamiah Alford, who was charged for her role in the incident, had three outstanding warrants when arrested in suburban Dallas. Judge James Murphy ordered her detention on charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery by discharging a firearm, and additional aggravated battery counts.
Kamiah Alford had previously pleaded guilty to aggravated battery in June 2024 and received a five-year sentence. She was paroled in September 2024.
