Tragic Incident in Geneva as Man Fatally Shoots Ex-Wife before Taking His Own Life
An investigation is underway in Geneva, Illinois, following a distressing incident where a man allegedly killed his ex-wife before ending his own life on Wednesday evening.
The authorities were alerted at approximately 5:20 p.m. when 49-year-old Chad Dockery, a resident of Hinsdale, made a call claiming that he had taken the life of his ex-wife, 48-year-old Amanda Dockery, at her residence on Pebble Beach Court. The residence is located at the end of a cul-de-sac off Keim Circle, as revealed by Deputy Matthew Dean of the Geneva Police.
According to Chad Dockery's account, he was armed with a handgun. When the first officer arrived at the scene, Chad was observed sitting inside a vehicle parked at the end of the driveway. As the officer approached, a single gunshot was heard.
Subsequently, Chad was discovered inside the car with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Law enforcement officials entered the house where they found Amanda, who had suffered two gunshot wounds. Both Amanda and Chad were rushed to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, where Amanda was tragically pronounced dead at 6:06 p.m., followed by Chad at 7:30 p.m., as confirmed by the police.
Authorities reported the recovery of a 9mm handgun at the scene.
Fortunately, there were no other individuals present in the residence at the time of the incident, and no additional injuries were reported.
Geneva Police Chief Eric Passarelli assured the public that there was no danger to their safety, as the incident was contained within the scene and the immediate cul-de-sac area. He expressed his sympathy, stating, "It's tragic. Our hearts go out to the families and everyone affected in this community. As we've said, it really shakes the whole community."
Residents residing on Pebble Beach Court were taken aback when they returned home to find their tranquil neighborhood surrounded by police presence.
"I just heard the helicopters – didn't know what it was. My neighbor came over, knocked on my door, and said, 'Mike, come outside – take a look,'" shared Michael Sloan, a neighbor. "I come out, there's 25, 30 police cars up down the street."
The investigation into the murder-suicide incident remains ongoing, with autopsies pending for both Amanda and Chad at the Kane County Coroner's office.
The Kane County Major Crimes Task Force is providing assistance to the Geneva Police as they delve into the details of the case.
