Tragic Incident in Chicago's Austin Neighborhood Claims the Life of a Woman
Chicago authorities have reported a distressing incident in which a woman lost her life due to a gunshot wound and an ensuing apartment fire. The victim has been identified as Eunice Moman, a cherished mother and grandmother who also had two great grandchildren.
The heart-wrenching situation unfolded when emergency services received a call at approximately 2:16 a.m. regarding a fire at a residence on South Lavergne Avenue in the Austin neighborhood. Concerned neighbors had alerted 911 after detecting the odor of smoke.
One resident, Stacy Adams, shared her harrowing experience, stating that she woke up to the smell of burning plastic emanating from beneath the floorboards near a radiator. She diligently searched her entire house to identify the source and upon looking out of her window, she was alarmed to witness smoke and flames billowing from the adjacent third-floor apartment.
Tragically, Moman was discovered inside the apartment and rushed to Stroger Hospital. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries. Shockingly, it was during the medical examination that doctors made the startling discovery that Moman had suffered a gunshot wound.
Moman's cousin expressed deep anguish over the devastating loss, emphasizing the significance of her role as a mother and grandmother to her grieving family. "If your loved one was hurt, you would want them to do the right thing," the cousin sorrowfully stated.
An unidentified neighbor residing below Moman's apartment revealed that they were close friends. Sensing something amiss this morning, the neighbor became alarmed upon hearing unusual sounds. "I knocked on the ceiling to signal if she was okay because that was our code," they explained. "In response, I heard a series of knocks, but when I called and texted her, there was no reply."
The incident has left the community shaken, as the loss of a beloved family member and the circumstances surrounding her death have raised numerous questions. Authorities are diligently investigating the case to determine the sequence of events that led to this tragic outcome.
